Attendance Allowance

File of paper work

At Steel Support we specialise in helping older people complete the Attendance Allowance. This is a Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) government application form – a lengthy and often confusing document. This non-means-tested, tax-free benefit is available to people over State Pension age who need help with personal care or supervision due to a physical or mental health condition.

You may be eligible if:

  • You are over State Pension age.
  • You require support with daily activities like washing, dressing, eating, or need someone to keep you safe.
  • You have needed help for at least 6 months.
  • You are not in receipt of other benefits such as DLA, PIP or ADP.

You don’t need to have a carer, but must show that care is needed. For full criteria visit www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/eligibility

What Payment will I receive?

  • Lower rate – £73.90/week: if you need help during the day or night.
  • Higher rate – £110.40/week: if you need help both day and night, or are terminally ill.
